Finally looking at my email. This was a wonderful trip down memory lane for me too. Although I never met your mother's mother, your story reminded me so much of time I spent at my grandmother's (your great grandmother) house. I started to call it a wabi sabi house. When I was a child, it was never painted, had no indoor plumbing and was roughly built. Then I got to thinking of the meaning of wabi sabi and decided it was just the opposite: it was perfect, permanent (in my memories), and complete (completely safe, happy and where we all got fed and loved, and entertained by ghost stories). Thanks!

Your lovely recollections prompted thoughts of my own grandma. Boy, how I miss her and all that was lost as she slid down the path of Alzheimer's. She was - and remains - my beacon pointing to all things good and kind and generous. She was conservative in many respects - maybe modest is a better way to put it, because it had nothing to do with politics - but an absolute radical when it came to treating people well. No matter your age, creed, color, preference, persuasion... all were welcome, all were celebrated, all were dignified, all were safe, all were loved. On one hand, it makes me happy to remember. On the other, it makes me sad knowing I'm not in her league. But I try. Thanks for the midday wistful smiles, Linda. <3

She sounds like a lovely person. You’re selling yourself short—your love, kindness, and care of other people is treasured, especially by my family. You ARE in her league.

I’m so happy you enjoyed it! Thank you for reading it—that means a lot to me. ❤️ As I was reading back through it, I happened to think that we should be more attentive to how we can positively impact future generations. Your kids and grandchildren are fortunate to have you as their sunshine in a very bright childhood. 🥰

Thanks, Jerry! I don’t know if youth allows us to fully appreciate the blessings of a childhood with our grandparents. It takes time and reflection to see just how vital they were to who we have become. Oh, to have that wisdom sooner!
